Eastbrook Students Rise to the Top of International Law Firm Reed Smith

On Thursday 9th January, a group of enthusiastic Year 10 students from Eastbrook School, Dagenham travelled into the City of London to participate in their ‘World of Work’ day. As part of the Rising Futures Programme, Yes Futures run extra-curricular trips to our inspirational partners to have a taste of what the future could hold. For Eastbrook School Yes Futures had organised a trip to the international law firm Reed Smith! The students were blown away by the grand building and impressive views of the whole of London.

The morning began with an introduction and explanation of law and who Reed Smith work with. One in twenty people will end up in employment in this area – ‘Law is everywhere’.

During a speed networking session, staff gave up their time to explain their roles within the company. The students asked intelligent questions and gained a valuable insight into the daily life of a Reed Smith employee.

Through the day they were given the opportunity to tour the building and get an insight into how accessible it is to work in law.

By meeting students and graduates through to lawyers and the HR department, Eastbrook were able to see how, with hard work and determination they could work in a company like

Reed Smith.

In the afternoon the students were put in groups and asked to research a recent news article and present their findings to their peers. The Reed Smith Staff attending were extremely impressed with how confident and mature Eastbrook students took on the task. They worked well in their teams, spoke clearly and of course a touch of humour was added!

The day ended with some valuable advice from the HR department, including how to write a CV and how to prepare for interviews.

The students of Eastbrook really did themselves proud, their enthusiasm, maturity and ambition shone through. Well done! Thank you to Reed Smith for facilitating a fantastic day providing our students with a valuable insight into the world of work!
