This week we’re going to be focusing on designing effective pupil premium strategies! Improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils is something that is very close to our hearts at Yes Futures, where we work to ensure that every young person on our programmes is empowered to achieve their personal potential.
Much like the way we design our own programmes, an effective pupil premium strategy is one that identifies the specific challenges that young people face; sets out coherent and SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound) objectives; selects appropriate and evidenced activities to achieve these objectives; and evaluates the impact of the chosen activities.

Whilst the gov UK website has a useful set of guidance docs for developing your school’s
pupil premium strategy, we think that the EEF’s resources are hard to beat.
The EEF’s ‘Menu of Approaches’ demonstrates how pupil premium funding can be split
across three distinct focus areas: high-quality teaching, targeted academic support and wider
strategies.
