The World of Work at EY

On a very cold morning on Wednesday 12th December, a group of excited students from Wymondham College took a journey to Central London to learn about the World of Work.

Shivering on a bus in the pitch black long before dawn, we started our journey to the World of Work at EY. We arrived at the bottom of the tall glass tower early, and made ourselves comfortable in the foyer, seeing the employees trickle in and up.

Students were surprisingly enthralled by the lifts, due to the speed they went. They were simply amazed to see the view from the 19th floor, and seeing how much higher some of these places went. A very literal representation of the phrase "going up in the world".

After many photos and questions about what different buildings were, the other school arrived and we were greeted by a partner of EY who gave a presentation about the company and its values. The students were amazed to discover how much money the company made a year!

We were then given a tour of the offices, students engaging in a quiz and looking eagerly at the free mince pies. But alas, in the life of work it can be difficult to fit everything in a day, and we had a working lunch. Students paired with someone from another school, and asked a member of EY staff questions about their career, and the choices that led them to it.

There was great leadership and teamwork demonstrated during this part of the day from our students!

After a big THANK YOU to our hosts, we climbed back onto the bus and headed home, ready for their Winter Formal - and in my case, ready to sleep!

Our World of Work days are an integral part of our Yes Futures programmes.
